To His Excellency the Governér, Sir F. H. May.

To have been informed by certain Cantonese gentry

in Hongkong by telegram that Your Excellency has sent more than

$100,000 to relieve the present flood distress in Kwong Tung, and

has made strenuous efforts to promete subscriptions, and has despatch

-ed many launches to Canton to assist in providing relief. We, the General and the Civil Governor, much appreciate Your Excel-

-lency's kind regard for the distress of your neighbour and your

great charitable assistance. Besides reporting to the Central Government, we respectfully express our thanks on behalf of the distressed. We pray that Your Excellency will furnish us with a

list of all your hemourable contrymen who have made any contribut-

-ions er rendered any assistance in the relief, so that we can make

it public.
